1. Who needs a tourist visa?
- U.S. citizens visiting Brazil for tourism; and
- U.S. citizens participating in sports or artistic events, - whenever they are not being paid for such activities (except for daily allowances, and hotel & travel expenses.)

2. What do you need to bring to the Consulate to apply for a visa?
- Your passport, valid for at least 6 more months upon your arrival date in Brazil;
- One Visa Application Form per applicant, completely filled out online, dated and signed by the passport holder or his/her parents/guardians. The application form is found at https://scedv.serpro.gov.br. (You will need to print only the receipt page with the bar code: sign it and glue the picture).
- One recent 2x2 passport-photo, front view, white background;
- A copy of your round-trip ticket or a booked itinerary showing travel to and from Brazil (confirming the purchase of the ticket, with passenger’s name, itinerary, flight number and arrival/departure dates);
- A copy of the U.S. Alien Resident Card for foreign residents and/or a valid visa or document to return from Brazil to the US or to another country;
- For minors under 18 years of age, see “Visa for Minors”; and
- Proof of residency (driver's license, utility bill) and;
- The Consulate may request additional information/documentation as deemed necessary.
3. How much does it cost?
- U.S. passport holders must pay a processing fee of US130.00 in reciprocity for an identical fee paid by Brazilian citizens who apply for a tourist visa to the U.S.;
- Tourist visa fees vary according to nationality: Australia: US$35.00; Canada: US$65.00; Japan and Russia: US$50.00; Mexico: US$30.00; Nigeria: US$40.00 and all other countries: US$20.00;
- An additional fee of US$20.00 will be charged for any application not submitted in person by the applicant, regardless of nationality. This additional fee is not applicable to family members; and
- No cash, personal or company checks are accepted, only U.S. POSTAL SERVICE MONEY ORDER, made out to the Consulate General of Brazil.

- Processing time: five to eight business days.
5. Visa requirements for Minors (under 18 years)
- Valid passport (valid for, at least, another six months);
- One Visa Application Form per applicant, completely filled out online. Print the receipt page, with the bar code, and affix the picture. Both parents/guardians must sign the receipt.
- One 2x2 passport photo;
- Original + one copy of birth certificate;
- When traveling alone: a notarized letter of consent, signed by both parents; and
- When traveling with one parent: a notarized letter of consent signed by the non-traveling parent.
6. Notes
- The Tourist Visa is generally good for 5 years with multiple entries. There are, however, exceptions for the duration of the visa, based on the documentation presented and purpose of the trip;
- All 5-year tourist visa holders, regardless of nationality or the validity date of the visa, may only stay in Brazil for up to 90 days. The Brazilian Federal Police (http://www.dpf.gov.br) may extend the visa, yet it may not exceed 180 days per year, under any circumstances;
- The validity of the visa begins on the date of the first entry in Brazil; and
- For additional information, please call between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
7. What do you need to know before applying for a tourist visa?

- No visa will be processed by any kind of mail including Airborne Express, DHL, FedEx, UPS, Fax, E-mail, etc.;
- Visas can be submitted by visa service companies. Please note that when using a visa service or a travel agency, you must be a resident of the States of NY, NJ, CT, PA, DE and the Bermuda Islands, which are under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Brazil in New York. If you live in other areas and wish to use a Visa Service, please contact the Consulate of your jurisdiction.
- Visas can be submitted by a third party. Ex: a spouse can apply for the whole family;
- Documents are submitted from Monday through Friday, from 10:00 AM through 12:00 noon, except holidays;
- After all documentation is received by the Consulate, tourist visa applications take at least 5 (five) working days to be processed. Longer periods may apply. The Consulate has no rush/expedite service or fees.
- Pick-up is from 2:30 through 4PM on the day marked in the receipt; and
- Anyone can pick-up the visa as long as they have the receipt.
8. Vaccination/shots

This certificate is mandatory if applicant traveled within the last 90 days to any of the following Countries: Angola, Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guyana, Gabon, Ghana, Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Peru, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo (ex-Zaire) or Venezuela.
It is advisable if applicant’s destination in Brazil includes any of the following States: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima, Tocantins and the Federal District.
