


Travel Authorization for Minors
All applicants under 18 years of age ("minor") who are traveling unaccompanied or in the company of third parties will only be allowed out of Brazil when duly authorized by:
-both parents; or
-the legal guardian or guardians; or
-a court of Justice.
All applicants under 18 years of age ("minor") who are traveling in the company of only one parent will only be allowed out of Brazil when duly authorized by the other parent.
The authorization referred to in the above paragraphs must be granted by means of a document (get form) with authenticated signature, as per Article 83 of the Child and Youth Statute of Brazil.
The authorization must be legalized by the Consulate General of Brazil (see Jurisdiction for a list of Brazilian Consulates in the U.S.).
In case one of the signing parents is not a Brazilian national, his/her signature must be authenticated by a Notary Public before presenting the document to the Consulate General for legalization.
Signing Brazilian parents are not required to have their signatures authenticated by a Notary Public and can present the authorization directly to the Consulate General for legalization, provided they come in person and bring an ID.
This document must be attached to the minor’s passport.
As of July 24, 2010, the legalization of a Travel Authorization for Minors is free of charge.
